The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is accelerating efforts to complete a significant number of infrastructure projects launched earlier this year under the ‘Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan’ initiative. This initiative focuses on improving living conditions in Delhi’s rural and urbanized villages.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is ramping up its efforts to expedite the completion of projects aimed at revitalizing the capital’s villages. This follows the approval of a substantial budget in March 2024 for the ‘Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan’ initiative, which translates to “Delhi Village Upliftment Mission.”

As part of this initiative, the MCD greenlit 349 projects earlier this year, with a focus on enhancing essential infrastructure in various village locations across Delhi. These projects prioritize improvements in three key areas: roads, drainage systems, and street lighting.

Currently, the civic body is prioritizing completing the remaining 341 projects. The majority of these projects are concentrated in the Najafgarh, Narela, South Delhi, and West Delhi zones.

For instance, in the Najafgarh zone alone, at least 32 projects have been initiated to address the issue of inadequate street lighting. Areas like Bamnoli village, Goyla Khurd Chhawla, and Kapashera ward can expect improved illumination in public spaces once these projects are completed.

The ‘Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan’ initiative is part of a broader effort by the Delhi Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, launched in December 2023. This initiative aims to bridge the gap between rural and urban villages within the national capital. The Lieutenant Governor allocated a budget of Rs 800 crore for the overall rejuvenation of nearly 200 urbanized villages. These funds will be utilized for creating and upgrading basic infrastructure, enhancing livelihood opportunities, implementing scientific livestock management practices, improving healthcare facilities, ensuring proper land use, and addressing water management concerns.

By expediting the completion of these projects under the ‘Dilli Gramodaya Abhiyan’ initiative, the MCD aims to significantly improve the quality of life for residents in Delhi’s villages. These projects will enhance basic amenities, promote safety through improved street lighting, and contribute to the overall development of these areas.
