Bengaluru: In a significant move aimed at modernizing property management and improving transparency, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced plans to geotag an estimated 21 lakh properties within the city limits. This ambitious project is a precursor to the highly anticipated e-khata rollout, a digital platform that will revolutionize property-related transactions.

Geotagging involves assigning a specific geographic location to each property, using advanced mapping technology. By mapping the exact coordinates of every property, the BBMP aims to create a comprehensive and accurate digital database. This database will serve as the foundation for the e-khata system, providing a transparent and efficient platform for property owners, builders, and government agencies.

The geotagging process involves a combination of field surveys and satellite imagery analysis. Survey teams will be deployed to physically verify property boundaries and collect relevant data. This information will then be integrated with satellite images to create precise digital maps. The BBMP has allocated a substantial budget for this project, recognizing its importance in streamlining property-related services.

Once completed, the geotagging project will enable the BBMP to efficiently manage property records, detect encroachments, and prevent illegal construction. It will also facilitate the online registration of properties and simplify the process of obtaining building permits and clearances. Additionally, the geotagged database will be invaluable for urban planning and development initiatives.

The e-khata system, which is expected to be launched in the coming months, will leverage the geotagged database to provide a range of online services. Property owners will be able to access their property details, make payments, and submit applications for various permissions and clearances. The system will also enable the BBMP to track property tax payments, detect discrepancies, and take appropriate action.

The BBMP’s decision to geotag properties before the e-khata rollout demonstrates its commitment to modernizing its operations and improving citizen services. By investing in technology and data-driven initiatives, the BBMP aims to create a more efficient and transparent property management system that benefits both citizens and the city as a whole.
