Alarming incidents at Delhi’s Signature View Apartment in Mukherjee Nagar have finally prompted action from the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The building witnessed a series of concerning events where concrete blocks and portions of the parapet detached and fell within common areas. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. However, the incidents highlighted the potential dangers posed by the building’s structural integrity.
Responding to resident complaints and media reports, the DDA initiated repairs in the affected common areas. The repairs, completed within two days, focused on removing the hanging concrete chunks, offering some immediate relief to residents.
However, this solution is far from a permanent fix. Residents remain deeply concerned as damage within individual apartments persists. They emphasize the urgency of a more comprehensive response, citing a previous IIT study that declared the entire building structurally unsound. The report, commissioned in January 2023, reportedly recommended immediate evacuation, dismantling, and rebuilding of the towers.
The residents are calling on the DDA to acknowledge the gravity of the situation and take concrete steps to address the structural issues plaguing the entire building. They fear further delays could have catastrophic consequences. The situation at Signature View Apartment underscores the critical need for timely maintenance and proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents in older buildings.
