Ghaziabad is on the cusp of a major transformation as it gears up to implement a Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy within the next month. This progressive initiative signifies a shift towards a more sustainable and integrated urban future, centered around the city’s existing metro and Rapid Rail (RRTS) networks.
The TOD policy focuses on creating vibrant mixed-use zones within a 500-meter radius of these transit lines. These zones will act as mini-cities, offering a harmonious blend of residential spaces, commercial establishments, and recreational areas, all conveniently accessible by foot or bicycle. This approach fosters a car-lite lifestyle, promoting reduced traffic congestion, pollution levels, and reliance on personal vehicles. The Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is actively driving this initiative. Following a successful resolution of resident concerns, the draft Master Plan 2031 has been amended to incorporate the TOD policy, paving the way for its official implementation. Ghaziabad’s metro and RRTS corridors are expected to witness a significant revitalization under this policy.
