The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is taking a firm stance against illegal constructions near city lakes. In a recent demolition drive, they targeted unauthorized structures built within the buffer zones and full tank levels (FTLs) of Nalla Cheruvu and Kistareddypet lakes.

HYDRAA officials identified and demolished several structures, including large sheds and multi-story buildings. While residential villas were spared, the drive aimed to reclaim public land and preserve the vital water sources for the city. This decisive action sends a strong message to those who flout regulations, emphasizing the importance of protecting Hyderabad’s vital water resources.

The demolition drive comes amidst growing concerns about the shrinking capacity of Hyderabad’s lakes due to encroachment and pollution. By safeguarding the buffer zones and FTLs, HYDRAA hopes to ensure the long-term sustainability of these crucial water bodies. Additionally, by demolishing unauthorized structures, the agency aims to prevent potential flooding and ensure the safety of surrounding communities.

The demolition drive has sparked mixed reactions. While some residents welcome the crackdown on illegal constructions, others express concerns about the displacement of those who have invested in the demolished properties. Nonetheless, the overall impact of HYDRAA’s efforts is positive, promoting environmental protection and responsible development in Hyderabad.
