Hyderabad’s Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection Agency (HYDRAA) is taking decisive action to restore the city’s vital water bodies. In a recent operation, HYDRAA officials demolished several illegal villas constructed within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of various lakes across Hyderabad. This move aims to address the rampant issue of lake encroachments that threaten the city’s water security and ecological balance.
The demolitions targeted unauthorized structures encroaching on lakes like Sunnam Cheruvu in Madhapur, Katwa Lake in Dundigal, and Pedda Cheruvu in Ameenpur. Several villas under construction were razed, along with godowns storing building materials. These encroachments not only impeded the natural flow of water but also posed a potential threat to the structural integrity of the surrounding areas during heavy rainfall.
The operation underscores HYDRAA’s commitment to protecting Hyderabad’s fragile water ecosystem. By clearing these illegal structures, HYDRAA aims to restore the lakes’ natural storage capacity, improve water quality, and mitigate flood risks. This action also sends a strong message to those who disregard environmental regulations, deterring future encroachments.
However, the demolitions may have caused temporary inconvenience to some property owners, particularly those who might have been unaware of the illegalities involved in construction. The incident highlights the need for better communication between authorities and residents to prevent such situations. Nevertheless, HYDRAA’s proactive approach is a positive step towards safeguarding Hyderabad’s vital natural resources for the benefit of future generations.
