Mumbai: In a bid to address the persistent problem of leaky apartments in Mumbai’s high-rise buildings, the Maharashtra Real Estate Regulatory Authority (MahaRERA) has announced a set of guidelines for developers to implement. These guidelines aim to minimize the occurrence of leakage issues and ensure the structural integrity of buildings.
One of the key recommendations is for developers to engage certified waterproofing experts during the construction phase to assess the building’s design and suggest appropriate waterproofing measures. Additionally, developers are required to use high-quality waterproofing materials and adhere to strict quality control standards.
MahaRERA has also emphasized the importance of proper maintenance and regular inspections to identify and rectify any potential leakage issues before they escalate. Homeowners are encouraged to report any leaks to their respective developers or building management committees promptly.
The authority has further clarified that developers are responsible for rectifying any leakage issues that arise within the warranty period of the building. If the developer fails to address the problem, homeowners can escalate the matter to MahaRERA for resolution.
By implementing these guidelines, MahaRERA aims to improve the quality of construction in Mumbai’s real estate market and enhance the living experience for residents.
